The 2 Tables are JOINED. The desired datafields selected and Casts, Expressions & other functions applied as appropriate.
A datasource is made on the Query. The datasource is like a 'mirror' of the Query and is now a floating layer of data -- accessible by Charts, Templates, Applications, etc.
An Action is created automatically that links the Query to the Datasource.
The XML for your Template is stored safely in your account. The Template loads the XML when launched.
Click the pdf icon. The XML is Saved - and pulls the datasource, merging it into the static template XML. The PDF is then processed on the server.

Developing a Rudimentary Benefit Statement: a Personalized PDF for Print
A Chart can be an effective means of capturing complex information and 'boiling it down' to a more easily understood graphic.
A Pie Chart is a good type of chart to use for a Benefit Statement with the slices being Paid Time Off, Other Benefits and Pay for Time While Working.
Dynamic, data driven Charts can be created within Younicycle and bound to a Template. Here's how it's done.
Part 5 (Make a Chart)
STEP 1
You will be viewing a Chart we have already created. Look at the YTree and click the Charts Folder. The list of Charts (currently only 1) will appear in your main frame. Click 'bs_1_pie'. You will move to the Edit functions for this Chart.

Select Pie
Select Pie 3D
Select the correct Datasource from the drop down list
Select the correct records to chart. (We only have 1 in this example).
Select the columns to be charted
Usually (for pie charts), 1 row = 1 record. No diff here - as we only have 1 record.
We chose Custom and selected our own colors. Theme colors are also available.
Size it according to the 'available space' in the Template.
Save & it becomes available for use in the Template
STEP 2
That's it. You're done with Charts.
You can come back at any time and tweak the appearance (and save again). The Chart will change whenever the datasource changes.
If you have many employees, they will all be created dynamically for each employee (based on their data) - & spooled into the resulting PDF.
